Student Laptop Onboarding

From September 2026, Year 9 students will use school-managed Windows laptops as part of their normal learning at Claremont School.

This site explains what parents and students need to do before handing in a laptop, what the school will install, and what happens when the device is returned.

Claremont students using digital devices in class

Important: Student laptops must be handed in by Friday 3rd July 2026 to guarantee setup for September. The laptop will be reset during setup, so please back up anything important before handing it in.

Who this applies to

  • Year 9 students starting in the 2026/2027 academic year.
  • New students joining the school where this policy applies.
  • Students whose parents choose to join the managed laptop scheme early.

Device essentials

  • The laptop must be a Windows laptop.
  • Apple MacBooks are not supported for this scheme.
  • The laptop must support an active stylus or digital pen.

School setup

  • Students use their school account to sign in.
  • Students and parents will not have administrator rights.
  • The school will install safeguarding, security and learning software.

Why the school is doing this

The school is moving to a managed laptop model to improve safeguarding, security, consistency and learning. A school-managed device allows Claremont to apply appropriate filtering, monitoring and security controls.

It also means teachers can plan lessons knowing students have access to the same core tools and a consistent setup.
